Dear Pastor Lee:
Please forgive me for my very delayed and long overdue note to you.
Our daughter, Katie, has been quite ill with depression. She attempted suicide in February. It has been a painful, sad and stressful time as we have gotten her the support she needs. I was away from the church for many weeks, helping to get her the right doctors and care. The congregation has been wonderful, caring and kind. But I have lost touch with many who are important to me this winter as my attention was focused on our daughter. I hope you will forgive my silence and lack of attention. Things are better, for now and Katie is improving. Thanks be to God for the Spirit's strength, encouragement and mercy. With God all things are possible!
Our church has held you in our prayers during worship, even as I was unable to write to you. We've prayed at Christmas, during the Olympics, and now during Holy Week and this Easter Sunday. We share information about your church and youth. We do not have a youth group yet for the exchange of letters. Katie and one other young person who comes periodically are our only youth right now. We have worked hard to invite teens to the church and hope to change that but it has been hard. Many families with teens and young children left before I came. It is one of the reasons they called me to serve here, because they are aware of the experience I have working with youth. We have several young families with little children now attending, but they do not write well yet. We continue to work hard, to pray, to encourage families and youth to hear God's word and be in community with us. There are signs our hope and our prayers will be answered but in time.
We have had four very big snow storms in the last four weeks, accumulating 3 feet of snow! Today is warmer though and there is hope that Easter Sunday will be sunny and a warm day to melt the snow. We are eager for spring to arrive, although I'm told there is a lot of mud in Maine during the spring months. We will see. The geese are returning and the birds are singing, so these are good signs. Hope lives!
I understand if you are disappointed with our partnership - I have not been a good partner pastor in recent months. But you are fondly remembered and loved. I hope you will forgive my absence and silence. Please extend my care and love to your family and congregation if you find it fitting.

먼저 오랫동안 연락을 드리지 못함에 용서를 구합니다.
내딸 Katie는 우울증에 결려서 2월에 자살을 시도했습니다. 그것으로 마음도 아프고 스트레스를 받고 있습니다. 우리는 그녀를 위해서 필요한 지원을 아끼지 않고 있습니다. 나는 그녀에게 적절한 의사와 돌봄과 도움을 주느라 여러 주간 교회에 출석할 수 없었습니다. 우리교회(congregation)도 위로와 최대한의 관용을 베풀고 있습니다. 그러나 나는 이 겨울에 나에게 귀중한 많은 형제 자매들과의 만남을 못하고 있으면서 나의 딸에만 신경을 쓰고 있습니다. 나는 이목사님 교회에서 내가 연락도 없고 관심도 표하지 못한 것에 대해 용서를 바랍니다. 상황은 점점 좋아지고 있으며, Kaite가 호전되어 가고 있습니다. 하나님의 성령과 위로하심과 자비에 감사를 드립니다. 하나님께서 함께하시면 능치 못함이 없느니라.
비록 내가 이목사님에게 그동안 편지를 쓰지는 못했지만(아니 쓸 수가 없었지만), 우리교회가 경배하는 기도에 목사님을 표함하고 있습니다. 우리는 목사님의 교회를 위해 (지난)성탄절과 (동계)올림픽기간 그리고 고난주간과 부활주일에도 기도를 하고 있습니다. 이러한 사실을 목사님 교회와 젊은이들과 같이 나누었으면 좋겠습니다. 지금은 우리교회의 젊은이라고는 주기적으로 교회에 참석하는 Kaite와 다른 한 친구뿐입니다. 우리교회는 젊은 친구들을 초청하고 싶고, 그렇게 변화되기를 바라지만 어려움이 많이 있습니다. 이 교회에도 젊은이와 어린아이를 가진 많은 가족들이 있었는데 내가 이 교회에 오기 전에 이미 교회를 떠났습니다. 내가 이 교회에 사역하러 온 이유가 이들을 위함이었고, 이 교회는 젊은이들에 대한 사역을 잘 모르고 있기 때문입니다. 지금 우리교회는 어린아이를 가진 몇 가정이 있습니다. 그러나 그 아이들은 아직 글을 쓰지 못합니다. 우리는 그들이 복음을 듣도록 격려하고 우리교회의 공동체의 일원이 되도록 계속 노력할 것이다. 우리의 희망과 기도가 곧 응답 받아 그 징표들이 나타나고 있습니다.
우리는 지난 4주 동안 3피트정도 눈이 내리면서 4번의 눈폭설이 내렸습니다. 그러나 오늘은 따뜻해졌고 부활주일은 햇빛도 나고 눈도 녹아내리는 따뜻한 봄날을 기대하고 있습니다. 이곳 Maine 지역은 봄날에 여기저기 진흙탕이 된다는 이야기를 들었습니다만..... 그 현상을 보고 싶네요! 거위들도 돌아오고, 새들도 노래하는 것은 좋은 신호가 되고 희망의 삶이 됩니다.
나는 목사님 교회가 우리와 파트너관계를 맺은 것에 실망하셨다 해도 충분히 이해를 합니다. 사실 최근 몇 달 동안 나는 파트너로서 어울리는 목사의 역할을 하지 못했습니다. 그러나 나는 목사님을 사랑하고 애정을 가지고 목사님을 늘 생각하고 있습니다. 나는 목사님께서 내가 침묵해왔고 연락을 드리지 못한 것에 용서를 받고 싶습니다. 나를 이해해주신다면, 나의 이런 간절함과 사랑을 목사님 가정과 온 교회에 전달되어 기도해 주시기를 기원합니다.
하나님의 은혜와 부활의 축복이 함께하기를....
